                                 You need water to survive.

You can go 50 days without eating and only live a few days without water.

Our body weight is about 50-80 percent water.

Woman usually have a lower body water content than men because we have more body fat.

Muscle contains more water than fat

Water is vital for body fuctions

  1. Blood, transport nutrients and oxygen around the body.
  2. Other fluids-lubricant  for joints and eyes.
  3. Helps us swallow
  4. Helps with the nervous system
  5. Helps with waste disposal
  6. Serves to regulate body temperature.
  7. Maintains health of our kidneys by flushing out toxins and body waste.
  8. Reduces risk of kidney and bladder stones.

Ways we lose water out our body.

Urine, faeces, skin, lungs when we breath out.

The amount of water lost per person varies because we are all different and it would depend on

  • State of health
  • Metabolism
  • Diet
  • Exercise

{feeling thirsty yet, go on, go have a drink}

But it is still the eight glasses of water or 2 L of water a day, a bit like an apple a day.

  1. Drink more when it is hot and exercise is involved.
  2. Air conditioning or heating for long periods
  3. Fever
  4. Diarrhea
  5. Vomiting

Alcohol is a diuretic which means it increases the discharge of  urine. So every millilitre of  pure  alcohol you drink you lose 10ml of water in your urine.

Other sauces of water are

  • fruit juice
  • cordial,
  • milk
  • fruit
  • veges  to chips and burgers

What happens to your body when not getting enough—– water

The body processes  work to keep our body fluid levels stable. The thirst mechanism and kidney function are just two of them. Generally your total body fluids levels vary by less than one percent regardless of fluctuations in what you drink. But there are dangers if we persistently drink to little, If we get 20 percent dehydrated or more we would die.

Water.jpeg Early signs of dehydration

  1. Headache
  2. Fatigue
  3. Loss of appetite
  4. Flushed skin
  5. Heat intolerance
  6. Lightheadedness
  7. Dry mouth and eyes
  8. A burning sensation in the stomach
  9. Dark urine with strong odour

A horrible taste in your mouth, dry throat and cravings for cool wet liquid are physiological responses your body uses to signal dehydration.

To check if you are getting enough water, check colour of urine, yellow first thing in the morning and becomes paler by mid-morning. If it doesn’t your not drinking enough. It is best not to wait till you are thirsty before drinking because that is when you are already dehydrated.

To Much Water

It has been known that some people have died of drinking too much water after taking the drug  ecstasy.

What happens is the body cells swell and you feel weak, drowsy, and have convulsions.

You would need to drink six litres of water over a short period of time for this to dangerous, and you would probably be sick in the process.

  1. Hey man I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write something worth my time to read. I am all over the internet and I see so much pointless content that is just created for the sake of putting something fresh on their page. It takes devotion to create good stuff, thanks for caring.

  2. Thank you for this article, it was a good read.
