Estrogen Cream
I used this estrogen cream for a week and my symptoms went really quickly and now I just use it very occasionally when needed.

One of the most common symptoms women experience during the menopausal transition is vaginal dryness. When levels of estrogen drop during menopause, vaginal tissue becomes dry and irritated – a condition known as vaginal atrophy. Some doctors treat vaginal atrophy by offering women vaginal estrogen creams. These creams are absorbed by the irritated vaginal tissue which helps to relieve the dryness, burning and discomfort women feel. Up to forty percent of women experience symptoms of vaginal dryness and atrophy at some point during and after menopause.
Vaginal Estrogen Cream for Treatment of Vaginal Dryness: A Bad Idea?
Vaginal estrogen creams may seem like a good way to fix the problem, but they contain estrogen which is of concern to women since some studies show that higher levels of estrogen in the blood increase the risk of breast cancer. This could be problematic for women who have had breast cancer or are at high risk for it.
According to a study published at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, using vaginal estrogen creams leads to higher estrogen levels in women – meaning these creams are absorbed into the bloodstream. Researchers discovered this after using a sensitive radioimmunoassay to measure estrogen levels in women who used vaginal estrogen supplements and had completed therapy for breast cancer. Some were using vaginal estrogen tablets, while others used vaginal estrodiol rings for treatment of vaginal atrophy.
What does this mean for women who are suffering with symptoms of vaginal dryness? It may not be safe for women to use vaginal estrogen creams, tablets, or vaginal rings to treat vaginal atrophy – especially women who have a history of breast cancer. Some women with breast cancer are placed on aromatase inhibitors which help to lower estrogen levels and prevent the recurrence of breast cancer. Women using vaginal estrogen creams, tablets, and rings may offset the effects of these drugs by raising estrogen levels.
Other Ways to Treat the Symptoms of Vaginal Atrophy?
A safer alternative for treating vaginal atrophy, especially for women who have a history of breast cancer, is to use vaginal moisturizers to reduce the irritation and replace moisture and vaginal lubricants to make sexual intercourse more comfortable. They may not be as effective as vaginal estrogen creams – but they’re safer.
