treeNight time can be the worst during menopause, especially when you cant sleep. I have used and still  use some of these methods:

An i-pod— On this I have meditation music,and calming and relaxing audio.  My favourite is called Chakra Balancing by Steven Halpern. After awhile I found that as soon as the music  started I was beginning to feel relaxed.

Computer Games– If I couldn’t sleep I would get up and play card games on the computor,it didn’t matter what time of night. It took my mind off other thoughts I was having at the time.
Smelling oils
I really responded well to these. And I went through heaps of them,I used many different ones. To use, put some on a hanky and breath it in when trying to go to sleep.

Lavender— This was out of my garden. I would pick some of the heads and place them inside my pillow case. Breath Deeply!!

Clarey Sage–-Nervousness, Panic, Stress, Tension, Fatigue[emotional and mental], Palpitations, headaches and dizzyness

Frankincense–-Nervousness, Anxiety, Stress, Tension

Chamomile—Nervousness, Panic, Anxiety, Tension,

Neroli— Nervousness, Panic, Anxiety, Stress, Tension

Vetiver—Nervousness,  Anxiety,  Stress, Fatigue {mental and  emotional}

Lavender— Panic, Anxiety, Stress, Tension

Orange—Nervousness, Anxiety, Tension, Fatigue {mental and emotional}

Ylang Ylang—Panic, Stress, Tension Fatigue  {mental and emotional}

These are all very similar to each other, so if one doesn’t work, try another one or a combination of them

Mind Talk

If I had thoughts that wouldn ‘t go away, this exercise helped. I would make myself think of a variety of objects that were all related and make a list in my mind. E,g I would think of  fruit or veges and say as many different types I could think off in my head. My mind would try and wonder off to bad thoughts but I made myself  go back to my imaginary list till I went to sleep. {I hope this  makes sense}

Self  Hypnosis

I was doing self hypnosis before I went through menopause for my sport, so then I used it for relaxing before going to sleep. It takes some practice but well worth the effort. Check out some self hypnosis books in my Shopping

Acupuncture

This is something else you could try. I had three sessions and felt that it did help.  Only two needles were used, one in each leg just down from my calf. So it didnt hurt either. I had my neck and shoulders done at the same time tho.

Meditation for Treating Anxiety
by Gordon Dalwood
Anxiety remains a serious condition that many millions of people must contend with. With such high scores of people, there will be varying degrees of severity with the anxiety they must contend with. For some, the anxiety levels are quite minor but troubling. For others, the anxiety levels they face are severe enough that they face the constant threat of panic attacks. Regardless of the levels of anxiety one faces, it is important to seek treatment for the condition.

The treatment most commonly used for anxiety is therapy and in addition prescribed medications are also used. But there are people who prefer to use a more holistic method of dealing with the anxiety problem. This will includes a therapy which employs meditation which has shown great success even for severe sufferers of anxiety.
Most people have a certain preconceived notions surrounding meditation and mediation therapy. For some, meditation is a “spacey” concept that has little real world value. In actuality, meditation is an excellent process for reducing the anxiety that affects the mind since it involves engaging the mind in a calming effect. This shuts down much of the “noise” the mind must contend with when it suffers from high anxiety.

Contrary to what many people believe, basic meditation can in fact be done even when you’re walking or moving. For the most part, meditation requires that you clear your mind of thought, primarily by distancing yourself from images, thought, events and people. Furthermore, in addition to being able to meditate on something in particular, one can also meditate with a totally clear mind instead. Interestingly enough, one method which has proved to be extremely popular, is to meditate on a Zen koan
A Zen Koan is simply a rhetorical riddle with no real answer. The purpose of the Koan is to develop critical analysis skills designed to gain insight into one’s own personal nature. While this may seem complex, it really is not. It is simply a matter of relaxing and allowing the mind to relax with it. This removes much of the clutter in the mind that allows the anxiety it is facing to dissipate.
Meditation practices are not difficult to learn. The Internet is full of resources that describe this process in detail. The steps can be followed which will lead to a basic understanding of the best way to benefit from meditation.
Naturally there are some people who will be leery of meditating alone. Many people would rather be with other people to experience this. A solution to this is to sign up for yoga classes. The process of combining meditation with yoga will help to calm the mind and relieve the feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, and pain.

Practicing yoga in your home is also recommended when you are not in class. This is helpful to achieve a habit of solitary meditation. Alleviating your anxiety will be accomplished. This is not a new concept. Meditation has been a method of relieving anxiety for many thousands of years. Why has it been used for so many years? Because it works. This is the reason that meditation should be tried by those who have anxiety problems.
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years. This alone is proof of it’s effectiveness for releaving anxiety. You have nothing to lose so give it a try.
